Owls
The Rabinowitz’ names were synonymous with owls. Everyone knew that they loved owls. Owls from around the globe were displayed throughout their home. Glass owls adorned window-sills, their brightly colored reflections enlivening rooms. Wooden owls carved from walnut, oak, teak, and other rare woods provided insights into the artists who had created them. Wise owls watched over their home. Owl lamps, owl pillows, owl umbrella holders, owl sheets, owl wall paper…owls were everywhere.
The origin of the owl collecting can be traced to a paper assigned to José to meet a requirement of credits for his Master’s Degree. Unwilling to research and retell the story of a great scientist (it had already been done), José questioned the origin of owls in chemistry textbooks, resulting in the writing and publication of A Compendium of Owl Lore and The Owl of Heinrich Khunrath: Its Origin and Significance.
