Poetry
Josy loved poetry. She wrote poems, she read poems, and in her later years she memorized poetry when she had trouble falling asleep. Many of the poems collected on this page were written between 1937 and 1940, during her high school years (dates are noted where available). She wrote to commemorate her mother and to honor her favorite teachers, as well as to celebrate the seasons and nature. In her later years Josy often wrote poems for special occasions, including José’s birthday and their anniversaries.
We also found one poem written by José, "Caption", which is annotated "December 1945, Kanchrapara, India" and signed "Pepita".
